RENESAN Institute for Lifelong Learning

Organization
RENESAN offers stimulating classes in fields including art, current events, cultural studies, film, history, literature, music, science, and theater. The classes are taught at high levels of quality and are offered at affordable prices, with many given in-person and online simultaneously.

The predominant age range of our patrons is 55 and above. RENESAN provides opportunities for social interaction and personal connection that are vital to maintaining the physical and mental health of its constituency.

The 2022-2023 operating budget is $209,000. RENESAN has no accumulated deficit and a modest cash reserve fund.

Opportunity
The executive director is the chief executive officer of RENESAN, responsible for the group’s administration and day-to-day operations, and, with the board, ensuring its financial health and the fulfillment of a dynamic mission and vision.

For most of its 27-year history, RENESAN was a volunteer-run organization which operated with a small, part-time staff in positions requiring moderate skill levels. In the fall of 2019, an initiative to professionalize the staff began with the creation of the executive director position.

The organization has met the challenges of the pandemic successfully, significantly increasing its audio-visual capacities while retaining 95% of its cash reserve fund. The new executive director will build on that framework and on a strategic planning process conducted in collaboration with the board to define and achieve the organization’s future.

Major Functions
• Supporting the activities of the board and its committees
• Increasing contributed revenues from individuals, foundations, businesses, and public agencies
• Overseeing the creation of an expanding portfolio of classes and managing its implementation
• Developing and implementing a robust marketing plan to maximize earned revenues
• Recruiting, hiring, and evaluating staff and independent contractors
• Maintaining the organization’s fiscally sound operations
• Recruiting, training, and inspiring volunteers

• Managing multiple priorities simultaneously
• Representing RENESAN to businesses, government, community partners, and the media
• Fostering cordial professional working relationships with staff, teachers, and volunteers Education and Experience

An undergraduate degree is required, as are at least three years of employment in the nonprofit sector which includes some fundraising experience.

Salary and Benefits
Salary range: $50,000 to $60,000

Hours per Week: 32 to 40, depending on the interests of the successful candidate; a flexible schedule during the summer including remote work can be negotiated

Benefits: 15 paid holidays, paid sick leave, 15 paid vacation days, and partial coverage of health insurance expenses
