ENC F22-07 The Architecture of Museums and the Vladem Contemporary
Wednesday, Nov 9, begins at 3:15
To celebrate its 100th anniversary, the New Mexico Museum of Art started the journey to create a new museum space focused on contemporary art. The Vladem Contemporary, designed by DNCA Architects and scheduled to open in 2022, is one of North America’s most innovative spaces for creating, learning about, and appreciating contemporary art. The new space includes an education center, flexible exhibition space, an artist-in-residence program, exterior displays, and outdoor spaces for community gatherings. In this presentation,
Devendra Narayan Contractor, the founding architect of DNCA, will explore the challenges and opportunities unique to the design of a contemporary art museum. He will review his drawings and photographs of specific projects, will look at underlying conceptual and formative ideas behind the design of the Vladem Contemporary, and will comment on the design philosophy and poetic design approach at DNCA.
Presenter Devendra Narayan Contractor will present ENC F22-07 In Person at 1200 Old Pecos Trail.
